Shihan Jacqueline Drayton " Sensei Jackie"  is the Founder and CEO of Children Achieving Results Effectively LLC, a community-based organization serving the students of NYC since 2009. Under the leadership of Shihan Jackie, CARE’s sole purpose is for students to identify and strengthen their leadership skills and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

 

Shihan Jacqueline Drayton began teaching Martial Arts in 1988 in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx.  However, it wasn’t until 1990 after the birth of her daughter that she decided to open her own school in the Crown Heights Youth Collective. There in a matter of two months she began training over 100 summer camp participants for ten weeks.  She spent three years working closely with Crown Heights Youth Collective and training hundreds of students in the disciplined art of Karate.

 

After several successful years of partnering with various community-based organizations the most significant turning point came in 1996 after her first Martial Arts tournament at I.S. 61, in Brooklyn when she was offered a contract to work with the Department of Education.  She would spearhead a program that would promote self-discipline, self-worth and accountability amongst a group of eighth grade students who were cutting class, exhibiting disruptive behaviors, and failing their classes due to lack of focus. Knowing that her work still was not over she went on to design a more enhanced Behavior Modification through Martial Arts program which would incorporate several character development programs such as Life Skills, Connect With Kids, and arts programs in piano and dance during school hours, afterschool programs and annual summer camps. Shihan Jackie’s students learned to build resiliency and a sense of accountability and ultimately graduated with all of their requirements.

 

With the huge success of her Behavior Modification program Shihan Jackie was invited to expand her program even more. What started solely as a Martial Arts driven organization soon transitioned to CARE providing Student Support Services in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx. CARE is driven by strong belief in fostering positive youth development by focusing on confidence building, character development, leadership skills, self-esteem and discipline in order to create purposeful and productive members of society has manifested in her extreme dedication to her students giving them the attention they need whether it be on or off site. Fulfilling our Mission encompasses the total young person participating in our Character education program; advisory or life skills program to create connectivity between the arts components, school and the environment they live in.

 

Shihan Jackie was born in Panama City, Panama and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, is a wife, and mother and grandmother to 1. Shihan Jackie hopes to continue to bring out the best in her students and change the world one student at a time.
